About WOD
I was a local small town boy addicted to alcohol, drugs and trouble. In 1973 the Lord snatched me out of that lifestyle and has trained me to live for Him.
In 1974 I married Barbara Ramsey. We have 5 sons and have done family ministry over the course of their childhood years. I have also done jail and prison ministry for over 30 years and worked with people struggling with addictions.
God has put it in my heart to reproduce what He has trained me to do. The Lord laid it on our hearts to start an outreach church to create an atmosphere that people would be comfortable in that maybe they would not be in a traditional church setting.
We started in the basement of our home, the first weekend of May, 2003. In June, the Lord led us to buy the Old Ritz Theater here in Cameron, MO. We remodeled it and started having services by the end of July. A year later, we bought the building next door and connected the two buildings. The new building is used for a game room, fellowship, nursery, Bible School [WTS] and Hang Out Night.
In our first service, we started with Barb and I and one visitor. We had a slow, steady growing process up to that point. We are now running between 80 and 100 with the emphasis on building people, not numbers. God has shown us if we build people, numbers will take care of themselves.
We believe in the tentmaker approach to leadership. All of our ministry is done through volunteers. We have no paid staff, which enables us to be able to have more equipment and more funds for the work of the ministry and to help people.
We work as team players, spreading out the responsibility of the ministry, which in turn brings more fulfillment and quality of ministry. God has brought us people who are very capable in their area of ministry, but with a servant’s heart and a willingness to work together for the glory of God and not for personal recognition.
